    The Impact of the internet on academic library use:perception of Chepkoilel community

Yet the demand for information appears undiminished. The Internet is an untapped channel that libraries can use to supplement already existing library services. The study explored Internet awareness, frequency and reasons of use and perception of the users towards traditional library services as compared to the Internet so as to set a platform for establishing future trends in library services. A modified model (D’Elia and Rodger, 2000) was used based on the Chepkoilel campus community use of the library and use of the Internet. They defined the segments of this market as follows: Segment 1) People who use the library but do not use the Internet; Segment 2) People who use the library, and Internet; Segment 3) People who do not use the library, and do not use the Internet; Segment 4) People who do not use the library but use the Internet. The survey was conducted through the use of self administered questionnaires. The results indicates that there is need to develop appropriate and complementary services in the library that will incorporate traditional library services and emerging services that have been made possible by the rapid new developments in ICT. Training is suggested as an appropriate means of enabling library staff to run and manage a digital library and also assist and teach students and staff on how to efficiently and effectively use the internet.     Surface and interface modification of Zr/SiC interface by swift heavy ion irradiation

    In this study thin Zr films (135 nm) were deposited on 6H-SiC substrate at room temperature by sputter deposition. The Zr/SiC couples were irradiated by 167 MeV Xe26+ ions at room temperature at fluences of 5.0 1012, 1.0 1013, 5.0 1013, 2.0 1014, 3.1 1014 and 6.3 1014 ions/cm2. The samples were analysed before and after irradiation using Rutherford backscattering spectroscopy (RBS), atomic force microscopy (AFM) and secondary electron microscopy (SEM). The surface morphology from SEM analysis revealed a homogeneous Zr surface which did not vary with increasing fluences of irradiation. AFM analysis revealed that the Rrms surface roughness did increase from the as-deposited value of 1.6 nm and then decrease at higher SHI irradiation fluences to 1.4 nm. RBS results indicate that interface mixing between Zr and SiC interface occurred and varied linearly with irradiation ion fluence. The value obtained for diffusivity of Zr shows that the mixing was due to interdiffusion across the interface during a transient melt phase according to the thermal spike model.http://www.elsevier.com/locate/nimb2016-07-01hb201

    Cobalt silicide formation on a Si(1 0 0) substrate in the presence of an interfacial (Fe90Zr10) interlayer

    The reaction between a thin film (126 nm) of Co and Si has been studied at 450 C for 24 h under high vacuum conditions, in the presence of a FeZr barrier layer. Without a diffusion barrier layer between Co and Si, Co2Si forms at 350 C as the initial phase while CoSi2 forms at 550 C. The FeZr barrier layer changed the flux of atoms arriving at the reaction interface. Co reacted with the Si from the substrate and formed a mixed layer of CoSi and CoSi2 in the interlayer region. The use of the FeZr diffusion barrier has been demonstrated to lower the temperature formation of CoSi2 to 450 C. The reactions were characterised by Rutherford backscattering spectrometry, Auger electron spectroscopy depth profiling, X-ray diffraction using CoKa radiation and scanning electron microscopy.http://www.elsevier.com/locate/nimb2016-09-30hb201
